ARGAN OIL

Argan oil is a popular ingredient in both hair and skincare but what benefits does it really give? In this blog we look at how argan oil is made and what are the different benefits for both hair and skin.

HOW IS IT MADE?

Argan oil is made from the kernels that grow on the argan trees that are found natively in Morocco. The fruit is a small, round or oval shape and has a thick peel that covers a fleshy pulp. Within this pulp is a hard shelled nut which contains between one and three oil rich argan kernels.

The first step in harvesting the argan oil is to extract the kernels. This is normally done by allowing the fruit to dry in the open air and the fleshy pulp is then removed.

The nut is then cracked open by hand to obtain the kernel. These kernels are then ground and pressed which produces an unfiltered argan oil. Following a filtration process this oil is then ready to be added into your favourite products.

If you use argan oil in cooking the process is very similar but the kernels are roasted before being ground.

So now we know where argan oil comes from how can it help our skin and hair.

BENEFITS TO YOUR HAIR

PENETRATES YOUR HAIR AND SEALS IT

Argan oil is a very unique oil in that when its applied to your hair it penetrates your hair nourishing it from the inside out. It can help to protect your hair from damage caused by colouring as it contains nutrients that help to rejuvenate damaged hair.  It can also be used as a protective oil prior to styling when using heat on your hair.

PROMOTES HAIR GROWTH

Argan Oil contains Melatonin and Vitamin E which promote hair growth and prevent hair loss.

PROMOTES ELASTICITY AND SHINE

Argan oil promotes elasticity by strengthening the hair shafts and preventing it becoming brittle. This also helps to reduce frizz and tame wild hair while giving your hair a glorious shine!

IMPROVES SCALP HEALTH

Using hair products that contain argan oil can help to reduce dandruff and other challenges that are caused by dry and flaky skin. This is because argan oil has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties.

BENEFTIS TO YOUR SKIN

Argan oil is a medium weight oil that is easily absorbed into your skin making it perfect for all skin types.

MOISTURISE SKIN

Argan oil contains an abundance of Vitamin E, omega fatty acids and linoleic acids which all work to moisturise your skin, soften any dry patches and even reduce acne.  Thanks to this Vitamin E it can also improve water retention in your skin and promote hydration. The antioxidants found in Argan oil are also known for helping to reduce eczema and fade scars. It is such a versatile oil that really can be used for any skin type leaving your skin feeling and looking healthy.

REDUCES THE SIGNS OF AGEING

The use of Argan oil helps to increase the skins elasticity which in turn slows down the formation of wrinkles. There have been studies done on this benefit and this is also gained through taking argan oil supplements.

ACNE PRONE SKIN

Argan oil is not seen as a comedogenic oil and therefore is unlikely to clog your pores in the same way that some other oils can. In fact the Vitamin E found in Argan oil can do the opposite by working as an anti-inflammatory providing relief for red and reactive skin. More than that it also helps to balance out the skins sebum levels resulting in less breakouts and fewer irritations.

IMPROVES NAIL HEALTH

Using argan oil on your nails and the surrounding skin will help to strengthen your nails and reduce breakage while keeping your cuticles soft and moisturised.
