An Interview with Temple De Luna Founder Rebecca

I am so pleased to introduce our interview with Rebecca. I first heard of Temple De Luna through Instagram and they have quickly become one of my favourite and one of our quickest selling brands on Greener Beauty.

Rebecca is one of the most beautiful people you will meet, she pours so much love and care into every single product that she hand makes and if you have ever tried one of them I am sure you will agree that they are an absolute pleasure to use and that you can feel the love.

Enjoy this interview and getting to know the lovely lady behind the brand!

As always any questions don’t hesitate to get in contact!

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU STARTED TEMPLE DE LUNA

I started Temple de Luna from my own experience with problem skin. From my early teens to my early twenties I suffered from really bad acne & also had psoriasis. I’d tried so many medicines over the years & spent so much time and money on all sorts of products that never seemed to help. I eventually started researching and experimenting with natural ingredients & creating my own products at home, and I found that they were so much more gentle (and effective!) on my skin. That was about 10 years ago now, and I’ve been formulating my own products ever since.

In March 2019 I found myself redundant from my job and really felt that I was being catapulted into a new chapter in my life, so I got to work planning Temple de Luna and then launched in October 2019, and the rest is history!

WHAT MAKES TEMPLE DE LUNA SPECIAL?

For me, one of the things that makes Temple de Luna special is how I view skin and bring those views into the brand. I’m not a fan of filters, photoshop/airbrushing to make my skin (or my customers’)  “picture perfect” in posts, and I actively try to normalise what human skin truly looks like. The industry is unfortunately filled with unrealistic expectations from advertising to social media through the use of filters and photo editing. So for me, being an advocate of how human skin TRULY looks (pores, blemishes, pigmentation issues and different textures etc) and encouraging my customers & followers to embrace their natural skin is pretty special to me.

WHAT DOES AN AVERAGE DAY RUNNING TEMPLE DE LUNA LOOK LIKE?

The fun thing is that every day can be different, if it’s a batch making day to replenish stock then I’m likely to be in my wee lab for about 9-11 hours throughout the day. I like to start my batch restocks with making my High Priestess Butter, then Tierra Balm and then High Priestess Serum! Usually, the day after that is a labelling day and making any changes to the website that I need to in regards to stock.

When I’m not in the lab, it’s all the behind the scenes admin work, which I really enjoy! This can be doing inventory checks, ordering supplies, social media & planning and working towards my goals! I also work full time as a support worker at the moment, which is another reason my days can be so different as the shift times are so varied. Though I’ve recently gone on to set hours at my full-time job, which is making it a lot easier to run Temple de Luna as it allows me to be more strategic in my weekly planning since I know my availability better.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE

I tend to change my skincare routine based on what it needs seasonally, as it’s winter I’ve ditched a cleanser in the morning & just wash my face with warm water. I follow this up with a glycolic acid toner, then my High Priestess Serum, I then pop a little bit of a new moisturiser I am currently working on and then apply my SPF (even in Winter, even when I’m not going outdoors! It is SO important!!). Then Tierra Balm on my lips!

Night time is pretty much the same, however, I use my Tierra Balm to take off my SPF, and I’m currently formulating a face wash so I have been using this afterwards (top secret at the moment, but spoiler alert – I LOVE IT!). Which is then followed by my serum, moisturiser and Tierra Balm on my lips.

I am also currently formulating a face mask so I have been using this 1-2 times a week recently too. This is also top secret at the moment, but I am very happy with it so far!

WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?

I’ve recently learned how to crochet, and I’ve found that it’s such a relaxing & therapeutic hobby so I’ve been doing a lot of that in my spare time recently. I’m very Spiritual so I love doing spiritual research, work in my craft and writing. I also love learning (many different topics!), so sometimes I’m researching new ingredients & dreaming up new ideas for Temple de Luna, or I’m learning about Ancient Civilisations, world history or reading up on theories and ideas about the world & its history. I’m a bit of a geek for that kind of stuff, I find it so interesting!

IF YOU COULD VISIT ONE PLACE ON EARTH WHERE WOULD YOU GO?

I have always dreamt of going to Machu Picchu. As I have a keen interest in Ancient Civilisations, I think experiencing Machu Picchu would just be incredible.

FAVOURITE FOOD?

This might be a bit boring, but I love potatoes. Doesn’t matter how they’re made, I like them in all forms and the more variety of potato on my plate the better!

IF YOU COULD CHOOSE THREE DREAM DINNER DATES WHO WOULD THEY BE?

I would choose Marisa Peer, Graham Hancock & Joe Rogan – I think the conversations would be phenomenal.

WHAT ALWAYS BRINGS A SMILE TO YOUR FACE?

My husband for sure. Regardless of what is going on, what I’m doing or how I feel he never fails to make me smile & laugh. He has been incredibly supportive of me from day one and always encourages me to chase my dreams.

IF YOU WERE A SUPERHERO WHAT POWERS WOULD YOU HAVE?

Shapeshifting 100%. How cool would that be? I could be casually walking around in human form then all of a sudden… I’m a cat. Or a bird. Or a lamppost. The possibilities are endless! I also think having Geokinesis would be SO cool!

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENT?

My proudest achievement has to be launching Temple de Luna! I’ve always wanted to have my own business, but it was always just a daydream, Temple de Luna is probably the biggest thing I’ve dreamed of & achieved!

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR TEMPLE DE LUNA?

Temple de Luna has just come into it’s second year of business, so my current goals are to continue expanding my range, continue to work on collaborations with likeminded people & companies and keep putting myself/TDL out there more! Long term, my biggest goal is to be working at Temple de Luna full time one day!
