An Interview with Sarah of Strawberry Moon

A good friend introduced me to the range from Strawberry Moon. She was always raving about how good the shampoo and conditioner bar was and how she didn’t need a vinegar rinse and that it always left her hair feeling clean, soft and super shiny. So of course we got the range in to test and we found exactly the same! This was a few years ago and now we frequently recommend that anyone who is struggling to find an effective plastic free hair care regime to try this magic bar and we have only had the same feedback from others too!

So it gives me great pleasure this week to introduce Sarah who is the founder of Strawberry Moon sharing her goals for this plastic free Sussex based business and what’s truly important to her.

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU STARTED STRAWBERRY MOON

I was suddenly very aware of the plastic we consumed at home, thanks to programs like the Blue Planet, I thought how can I make a difference and the first place I looked was the bathroom, I started to ask ‘Why do we use shower gel? It is just soap that is already watered down, but kept in a big plastic bottle!’, so I started to learn the art of handcrafting my own soap. I also wanted to find an effective deodorant, being a teacher is quite like being a performer,

you’re on your feet all day and I often found myself having to ‘top up’ during the day —I never would have believed that there was a better natural alternative, I had tried all sorts of alternatives that promised to be great, I even tried limes! But they never were, then when I enrolled on a natural skincare course I realised that it was possible—our natural deodorant balm is so effective that I don’t use anything else, and when people try it, they find they are hooked, not only is it super effective but it contains no aluminium or other nasties, it actually nourishes your skin, it doesn’t try to block your pours up and really works. Many people find they are sensitive to the baking soda used in most natural deodorant balms, so we have now also developed a baking soda free version which is just as effective.

WHAT MAKES STRAWBERRY MOON SO UNIQUE?

Everything we make is underpinned by the same principles – natural vegan-friendly ingredients, 100% cruelty-free and we don’t use any plastic packaging.

WHAT STRAWBERRY MOON PRODUCT MAKES YOU MOST PROUD?

Our shampoo and conditioner bars are amazing. Friends urged me to make a shampoo bar, my first attempt back in 2018 was not great, I made it using the same method I use for soap bars but with loads of lovely oils recommended for hair, despite my best efforts the bar left my hair feeling squeaky and heavy, like it had a coating on it and felt like I had dipped it in a fryer. As I studied more on the natural skincare course, I came to discover more of the art and science

behind these products and how you have to treat hair differently to skin. I then spent a further 6 months developing our current shampoo and conditioner bars and they having been selling like hot cakes since day one, they don’t require an apple cider vinegar rinse or any transition period they just work and leave your hair in great condition!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR DAILY BEAUTY ROUTINE

I keep things simple, wash, moisturise and eat good foods that look after your skin, I have my own vegan collagen powder made from lovely plant-based power that I use daily too.

FAVOURITE FOOD?

Pizza, I could eat it every day.

WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?

I like to keep fit, I cycle to work and regularly take part in BodyPump and BodyBalance classes. I also love to learn new things or challenge myself.

ITEM OF SKINCARE THAT YOU COULDN’T LIVE WITHOUT

Whipped body butter soufflé, is made with wild rose oil and is magic for your skin it has amazing skin rejuvenating properties and fights the signs of ageing. It rehydrates skin and locks in moisture. It is also superb for scars due to its astringent skin-nourishing properties. My favourite fragrance is sweet orange, so fresh and scrummy.

When you get great feedback from customers, it always gives a boost to your day.

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENT?

Being invited to the East Sussex Woman of the Year lunch with HRH The Duchess of Cornwall.

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR STRAWBERRY MOON?

I would love to have the time to expand the range further, I have lots of products under development but balancing my time is always tricky with my other commitments. My hope is many more people will discover our products and spread the word, we find once someone has tried our range they are very loyal and come back time and time again, we have regular customers in both the UK, France and Spain.

Sarah’s range are great because they really do a wonderful job without compromising anything. The shampoo & conditioner bar and natural deodorant are my favourite everyday products without a doubt. The soap bars are deliciously scented, my only problem is deciding which to use as there are so many lovely scent combinations.
So many plastic bottles and wrappers saved using the Strawberry Moon range over the last few years. Great range Sarah.
