An Interview with Krista of Scence

When I first heard of this innovational brand based down in Falmouth, Cornwall I just knew that I had to get the products in to test their effectiveness. I ordered a selection from each of the different product ranges and honestly was blown away by how effective they are and how much I enjoyed using them. This award winning family run brand is well worth checking out. And so it gives me great pleasure to introduce the interview with Krista of Scence.

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU STARTED SCENCE

Mel and I started developing a natural deodorant as we studying and practicing massage therapy and wanted a reliable and safe alternative to what was available on the market. Scence grew out of a practical need to stay fresh!

WHAT MAKES SCENCE SO UNIQUE?

Scence is a family business that has drawn on the interests and experience of two sisters – we have combined our skills to create guilt-free alternative for people that care about what they put on their skin and care about our planet.

WHAT DOES AN AVERAGE DAY RUNNING SCENCE LOOK LIKE? 

Mel is in charge of production and is helped by Andrea (our other sister) and develops new products. Krista works on marketing and everyday running of the business while Sarah is in charge of customer care and order fulfilment.

WHAT SCENCE PRODUCT MAKES YOU MOST PROUD?

I love our Perfect rose deodorant as this was one of our first and most loved products. It has won awards and is our absolute best seller.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR DAILY BEAUTY ROUTINE

Krista: Usually warm water and currently a tiny drop of cleanser – an emulsion that Mel has developed. Night time moisturiser is perfect rose face balm and daytime is a light emulsion again that Mel has been working on. Twice a week I use an exfoliating bamboo polish that is also a new product we are working on.

Mel: Warm cloth cleanse, spritz and moisturise.

ITEM OF MAKEUP THAT YOU COULDN’T LIVE WITHOUT

Krista: I don’t wear make up very often but I would use mascara and a drop of BB cream to make me feel like I’ve got something organised!

Mel: Touché Eclat Illuminating Pen

WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?

Krista: Camping, sailing, painting, gardening, sewing, cooking, socialising (when we are allowed!)

Mel: Sing with my band, crochet.

IF YOU COULD VISIT ONE PLACE ON EARTH WHERE WOULD YOU GO?

We would both love to visit remote untouched cultures with traditional food and medicine and learn from them first-hand.

FAVOURITE FOOD?

Krista: Salad – fresh crunchy – any salad – with lovely dressings and mushrooms!

Mel: Vietnamese Bun cha

WHAT SONG DO YOU LISTEN TO THAT ALWAYS CHEERS YOU UP?

Krista: Any punk or ska song gets me jumping round the kitchen but I love shouting the lyrics to Plastic Fox by Mik Artistik

Mel: I’ll take you there by Staple Singers

IF YOU COULD CHOOSE THREE DREAM DINNER DATES WOULD THEY BE?

Krista: My Nanna Doll who we lost many years ago and I’d love to spend an evening again with my kids when they were little!

Mel: Bill Burr, Ozzy Osbourne and Ricky Gervais

WHAT ALWAYS BRINGS A SMILE TO YOUR FACE

Krista: Birds singing to each other and having a chat.

Mel: My kids sense of humour

IF YOU WERE A SUPERHERO WHAT POWERS WOULD YOU HAVE?

Krista: The power to make people feel amazing –  physically, mentally, emotionally.

Mel: Time travel

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENT?

Krista and Mel: Simple. Motherhood!
