An Interview Flawless Founder Charmaine Armour

Here at Greener Beauty we love supporting innovative British businesses and Flawless is one of those! Founder Charmaine contacted us last year to see if we would be interested in stocking their range of products. All of them hand made in small batches in North Wales and all plastic free, we knew we had to test them! We were so happy that they lived up to their gorgeous packaging and we quickly got them in. There are products in the range that both Katie and I love and use over and over again. So it is such a treat to have Charmaine interviewed in this months People of Greener Beauty blog. What an interesting read!

Tell us about how you started Flawless

I was on the lookout for a new set of makeup brushes but they had to be vegan, affordable and high quality. I just couldn’t find anything with all of these attributes so I decided to design my own. That’s when Flawless born.

What does an average day running Flawless look like?

In a word, crazy! Flawless has one staff member – me. I formulate and design the products, manufacture them, fill the bottles and jars, design the labels, print them and then stick them on every product. I also write all of our product descriptions, take the product photos and carry out any editing that’s needed before uploading to our website as well as our other selling platforms. I package everything as well before booking couriers to send orders to all of our lovely customers.

Tell us about your skincare routine

I cleanse with the Flawless micellar water every morning and follow up with our toner. I then moisturise with whichever vegan moisturiser I have to hand.

In the evening I melt a small amount of our ultimate beauty balm in the palm of my hands before smoothing over my face and neck. This melt away the days makeup and then I wipe that away and rinse using a soft cotton cloth.

I moisturise in the evening with our nourishing Argan and Rosehip facial oil. I use a few extra drops of this when I feel my skin needs an extra boost of care.

What do you do in your spare time?

If only I had that luxury! Seriously though; of the few free hours I manage to get I like to snuggle on the sofa with my husband and dogs while I binge watch some telly. I also love to travel and try to make a point of doing so a few times a year. My next trip is to Israel where I will also be looking for suppliers of locally grown products for our skincare ingredients.

If you could visit one place on Earth where would you go?

Antarctica. I’ve longed to go there for such a long time as one of the things on my bucket list is to visit every continent on Earth. I would make it a purposeful trip though by working for the British Antarctic Survey. I’d also love to see the Aurora Australis.

If you could choose three dream dinner dates who would they be?

Sir David Attenborough. He’s such an icon and an inspiration to me and has done so much for our planet. I’ve actually met him and he was so lovely. We didn’t have dinner though so I think that would be a great date!

Sir Richard Branson –  I’d love to pick his brains on his business success advice.

Noel Fitzpatrick –  What an amazing man! The stuff he does for animals is truly mind blowing and so selfless. He deserves a good night out!

Favourite Food?

Chocolate. Always chocolate!

What always brings a smile to your face?

Kisses and cuddles from my two rescue dogs. They are both huge so that means bigger cuddles!

If you were a superhero what powers would you have?

To communicate with every animal species. That way I could really contribute to fixing the planet for them as they’d be able to tell me first-hand what the problems are from their own perspective.

Tell us about your proudest achievement

Graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Animal Behaviour and Welfare. I was determined from the outset to achieve a First, so I went for it, worked my butt off and got it!

What are your goals for Flawless?

I have a vision that one day I will be running a larger scale manufacturing company, keeping with our vegan and plastic free ethos of course. I want our products to be accessible to everyone, to show people that great quality beauty products don’t have to come at the expense of animal welfare or the destruction of our planet. I also have plans to expand our range into makeup products. It’s early days but is something I’ve already started working on.
